Counter Conduct (2025)

This debating chamber took place on April 17th 2025 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. It was conceptualised and staged by the post-graduate students attending the course on the Metabolic Museum. The event took place in the drawing studio of the school. A set of tables of different sizes were covered with textiles. At the far end, there were easels with paintings from the archive of the academy. Students were invited by their peers to bring a ‘contentious’ object to the debating chamber. Professors and professionals from the artworld were not able to intervene: the conversation was purely between the students and members of the Metabolic Museum collective. Each object was inventorised and photographed. No video recording of the event was made. Instead students in drawing made sketches of the different situations that took place, rather like a court of law. The audio recording has been transcribed and edited and is available below.
