OBJECT ATLAS: Debating Chamber

Participants: Students from National School of Anthropology and History, and students from La Esmeralda.

This workshop focuses on the interpretation of artefacts from the dual perspective of anthropological and art-related positions.

Students are asked to each bring an object of their choice to the workshop. It can take any shape or form as long as it can be carried to La Esmeralda.

All the artefacts will be positioned together to form the basis for a Debating Chamber. Visual analysis, cross-referentiality, decontextualization, narratology, critical fabulation and new interpretations will be generated through the collective discussion of this changing Object Atlas.

The workshop will be analogue, so no use of social media or power point is possible. Further, the brought artefacts can, but need not be, considered contentious, capable of triggering problematic meanings and therefore difficult to display in an exhibition.

The workshop will follow a set of rules to encourage participating students to go beyond stereotypical contextual information and create new dialogical ways of thinking of material and aesthetic culture.
